Narrative preproduction

DA_Intensités.png

This project has been directed by Grégoire Vanier, our naratology teacher and marketing cinema specialist. He had us make a rigorous and extensive preproduction. He shared his tool with us, and made us treat the game as a movie. Some tools required some twists, which was interesting.

Even though not everything went as planned during the production, I'm proud of our preproduction documents, and will share them here. (The documents are written in french)

General preprod document and character sheets

This document shows the intent of the game. It treats every aspect of the game and after reading it, one should know what to expect, what will happen, what it will look like, etc. The pages relevant to me are 5 to 18.

The main tool I appreciate in this document is the character sheet. Quite similiar to what I used to use in improvisational theater. The idea is to, as the writer, decide things about the character. Things they know, but most importantly things they don't. What they want, and what they need. And it gets interesting when these things are not the same.

The character sheet of Visionary

The script

The script is a document that contains the integrality of what happens in the game. It noticeably features all the the said text in the game. In cinema, it is typically a long text with with scene headers and dialogs. However, it a game that may not not be totally linear, the text format finds its limits. Instead, we went for a google sheet, which was enough for our game's complexity.
